Suzanne Vega – The Queen and the Soldier

Mystery Lyrics’s Dokumente Suzanne Vega - The Queen and the Soldier

Today’s Mystery Artist (born July 11, 1959) is an American singer-songwriter best known for her folk-inspired music. Her music career spans almost 40 years. She came to prominence in the mid-1980s, releasing four singles that entered the Top 40 charts in the UK during the 1980s and 1990s, including „Marlene on the Wall“, „Left of Center“, „Luka“ and „No Cheap Thrill“.

I see you now, and you are so very young
But I’ve seen more battles lost than I have battles won
And I’ve got this intuition, says it’s all for your fun
And now will you tell me why?

Today’s song is taken from her self-titled debut studio album. It was well-received by music journalists in the U.S.and reached platinum status in the United Kingdom. Produced by Lenny Kaye and Steve Addabbo, the songs feature her acoustic guitar in straightforward arrangements. In 1989, Rolling Stone magazine listed the album at number 80 on its „100 Best Albums of the Eighties“. It is also mentioned in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

Any connections to current events are of course purely coincidental… or are they?
